From The North

If you are travelling down the A1, at Scotch Corner take the A66 East bound

If you are travelling down the A19 take the A66 just after the River Tees flyover

 

Travel through Middlesbrough and watch out for the Cellnet Stadium (Middlesboro’ FC) on your left

Just after the Cellnet stadium you will come to a roundabout with a Reg. Vardy Garage on your right and a McDonald’s drive in on your left

Turn right at this roundabout and follow the signs for Guisborough and Whitby

Straight on at the next roundabout,

Straight on at the traffic lights, and go past some blocks of high rise flats

Straight on at the next roundabout up a long slow hill past the Pied Piper Inn and to a roundabout at the top of this hill.

Take the first left onto a dual-carriageway signposted A171 Whitby, Scarborough

Go straight on at the next four roundabouts to bypass Guisborough

The road you need to stay on is signposted A171 Whitby Scarborough

This is the last of the roundabouts!!!

At the fourth roundabout (Waterfall) - You are 16 miles from Hinderwell.

Follow the A171 past the Fox and Hounds at Slapewath and up a steep hill that has been made into a dual-carriageway

Past a reservoir called Lockwood Beck

Past a strange looking hill on your right called Freebrough Hill

Past the Jolly Sailors Inn

Past the Inn called The Grapes, which is close to a large reservoir called Scaling Dam.

About a mile and a half after The Grapes slow down for a turning left sign-posted B1266 Sandsend, Whitby.

When you come onto the B1266 you will cross a cattle grid.

Travel 2.6 miles you will meet the A174 At this T junction, turn left onto the  A174 signposted Hinderwell

Stay on the A174 and travel for two miles and this will lead you along Hinderwell High Street. 

Greylands Farm is number 5 High Street, we are seven houses after the Badger Hounds and before the bus shelter.  You should see Greylands Farm on your right when “Bus Stop” is written on the road.

From Hull

 

 

Travel on the A164 to Beverley, on to Driffield

At Driffield take the B1249 to Langtoft then Foxholes and down the very steep hill at Staxton to meet the A64

Take the A64 and go into Scarborough and follow the signs from Scarborough for Whitby A171

You should go through the villages of Scalby, Burniston and Cloughton before crossing the moors and dropping down into Whitby.

 

In Whitby follow the signs for the A174 Sandsend and travel through Sandsend, the road goes right beside the beach, and up the very steep hill (1 in 4)

Stay on the A174, through the village of Lythe The “Stiddy” Inn is on your right.  (Only 5 more miles to go)!

 

Stay on the A174 and this will lead you along Hinderwell High Street. 

Greylands Farm is at the far end of the High Street, we are number 5 High Street and we are seven houses after the Badger Hounds and before the bus shelter.

 

You should see Greylands Farm on your right when “Bus Stop” is written on the road.

Via The North York Moors

(When coming from the south)

 

M1 signposted North

M18 signposted North

To join the A1(M) signposted North

Follow the A1 North

The M62 and the A1 meet at Ferry Bridge An obvious land mark are the eight cooling towers at the nearby Ferrybridge Power Station.  You are 90 miles from Hinderwell

Stay on the A1 and keep travelling North

After Aberford take the A64 signposted York and Scarborough

Travel along the A64, bypassing York and continue towards Scarborough

At Malton take the A169 signposted Pickering and Whitby

Travel 26 miles on the A169 over the beautiful moors, through Pickering and Sleights and to the junction with the A171.

Turn left on to the A171 signposted Guisborough and Teesside

Travel for 7 miles and look out for the B1266 signposted Sandsend on your right

Turn right onto the B1266

When you come onto the B1266 you will cross a cattle grid

Then travel 2.6 miles and you will meet the A174 

At the T junction, turn left onto the A174 signposted Hinderwell

Stay on the A174 for two miles and this will lead you along Hinderwell High Street.

From the South

M1 signposted North

M18 signposted North

To join the A1(M) signposted North

Follow the A1 North

The M62 and the A1 meet at Ferry Bridge An obvious land mark are the eight cooling towers at the nearby Ferrybridge Power Station.  You are 90 miles from Hinderwell

Stay on the A1 and keep travelling North

At junction 49 leave the A1 and take the A19 signposted Teesside

The market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton will be off to your left and the Hambledon Hills on your right. Continue on the A19.

After the village of Osmotherly and the National Trust property called Mount Grace Priory you need to leave the A19 and take the A172 signposted Stokesley

Follow the A172 towards Stokesley. 

When you get to Stokesley you are 25 miles from Hinderwell

At the first roundabout, take the A172 (the second left) signposted Guisborough, Whitby

At the next roundabout, near Strikes Garden Centre, take the 3rd left, Guisborough, Whitby

At the next roundabout, near the suburb of Nunthorpe, take the third left signposted A174 Whitby

At the next roundabout take the 3rd left signposted A171 Whitby, Scarborough

Go straight on at the next four roundabouts to bypass Guisborough

The road you need to stay on is signposted A171 Whitby Scarborough
