Lightwater
Valley
Lightwater
Valley is a large theme park, about 50 miles west of Hinderwell, near
Ripon. It is set in a large area of
woodland, making it very scenic and peaceful, with the high-adrenaline rides
hidden among the treetops. Flamingo
Land
Flamingo
Land is another entertainment park.
It has very many adrenaline rides as well a large zoo, and is only 30
miles from the Cottage. Whitby
Abbey
A new
visitor centre opened in 2002. It has
received many wards and even the locals are impressed. It is
situated high above the town of Whitby and there are great views of the town
and the moors. North
Yorkshire Moors Railway
This is a
“Must Do”. Nearly all of our visitors
travel on this steam hauled line from Grosmont to Pickering. It follows the bottom of the valley and
there are many superb views to be enjoyed, which are invisible from any other
means of transport. The line passes
through the village of Goathland, (Heartbeat’s Aidensfield) and Glaisdale,
which was used as the Hogwarts Station in Harry Potter – you can leave the
train for visits and re-board the train and continue to Pickering. Pickering is a quaint town, with plenty of
things to enjoy when you get there. Tom
Leonard Mining Museum
Situated only
7 miles north of the Cottage, a half-day can be spent here learning about how
the local mining industry was born and then died. The tour does involve going underground into some old mine
workings. |
